Homeschool Amish Bible Study
"The Plain People: Amish - Mennonites - Hutterites"
About Kremer Homeschool Bible Study Programs
Kremer Homeschool Bible Resources is dedicated to teaching God’s Word in its truth and
purity. All homeschool Bible study materials are written by degreed Christian educators.
Our mission is to make God’s word understandable and applicable to today’s younger generation. As
Psalm 78:5-7 says, “He commanded our ancestors to teach their children,so the next
generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn
would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget
his deeds but would keep his commands.”

We live in a world of speed. From microwave ovens to instant photos, from next day deliveries, to
fast food restaurants. Our lives move at break-neck speed as we try to fit more and more into a
twenty-four hour day. We also live in a world of technology. Satellites send us everything from
maps on our car navigator to the television programs we watch each night. Our phones can surf the
internet, take photos and videos, and wake us up in the morning. Our lives rely on the technology
we have at our fingertips. We live in a world of fashion. Society dictates the next fad color and
style, and clothing stores fill our malls. Whether we like to admit it or not, the fashion world does
influence our lives.
Now imagine a world in which speed, technology and fashion play little or no part. Such is the
world of the Old Order Plain People. Among them there are no fashion statements to be made, no
corporate ladders to climb, no pedestals on which to exalt their children, and no degrees to be
earned for a career. Rather, their lives are consistent from one day to the next. Perhaps that’s why
so many “English” (those who are not Amish) love to drive the back roads to hear the clip-clop of
their horses and to read the next Amish romance novel that comes off the press. Truly there is a
fascination (and perhaps even an envy) with these people. Their lives seem so steady and carefree.
Who are these people? Where did they come from, and what does the future hold for them? Why
do they accept some things and reject others?
